Who won the Harris-Trump debate? The betting markets pick a clear winner as the selection odds change drastically

Former President Donald Trump lost Tuesday night’s presidential debate to vice president Kamala Harris — just ask the betting markets.

On Tuesday afternoon, before the debate, Polymarket — which bills itself as “the world’s largest prediction market — gave Trump a 53-46% chance of winning the November election.

But before the debate even ended, the numbers had changed drastically: Trump only held a one-point lead, 50-49%.

Polymarket also declared Harris the winner of the debate, 94%-6%.

Here are some of the highlights of the debate, courtesy of The Associated Press:

Trump’s mysterious health care plan

For years, Trump has promised a better healthcare plan than the Affordable Care Act. Asked again during the debate, Trump could not explain what he would do on health care.

“I have ideas of a plan,” he said. “I’m not president right now.”

He said he would reveal the plan “in the not-too-distant future,” something he has promised in the past.

Trump again questions Harris’ race but says he doesn’t care

Trump again questioned Harris’ racial identity but then repeatedly said he “doesn’t care” how she identifies.

“I read where she wasn’t black, … and then I read that she was black,” Trump said. “I couldn’t care less. Whatever she wants to be is fine with me.”

Harris called it a “tragedy” that Trump, she argued, “has consistently, over the course of his career, sought to use race to divide the American people.”

When they get low…

Harris has done something many advisers wanted her to do tonight: She has identified herself as someone who lifts and Trump as someone who weighs down.

She criticized Trump for “belittling” and “calling names” and said she will instead bring a “sense of optimism” as president.

Meanwhile, Harris has not shied away from hitting Trump with direct, cutting attacks, both on his actions as president and on his false claims about her record.

Harris notes that Trump called for the execution of the now-exonerated ‘Central Park Five’

Harris said Trump has a long history of racial divisiveness, dating back to when his family’s business was investigated for refusing to rent to blacks decades ago.

She also mentioned that he called for the death penalty for the “Central Park Five,” who were falsely accused of rape, and spread false “birther” theories about President Barack Obama.

“I think the American people want better than that, want better than this,” Harris said

New York City Councilman Yusef Salaam, a member of the exonerated group of men known as the Central Park Five, will speak to reporters after the debate ends.
