Evansville City Council approves organizations to receive opioid reconciliation funds

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – At Monday night’s meeting, the Evansville City Council approved the organizations to receive opioid decommissioning funding.

Several people were at the meeting to hear the vote on the proposal and to talk about how these organizations were chosen to receive these funds.

Last week, the Mayor’s Committee selected YWCA Evansville, Evansville Rescue Mission, Vanderburgh County Mental Health Court, Evansville Police Department, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and The Deaconess Women’s Hospital.

Mayor Stephanie Terry shared what they will do the next time funding is available to the community.

“Are open to again discussing further on how we can move forward again so that we can reach the ultimate goal and that is to reduce drug addiction, to reduce drug trafficking in our community but overall that people come to a better place where they can all thrive . in this society, she says.

All commissioners except Courtney Johnson voted to move forward with the funding given to the selected organizations.
